Got out my trusty Yelp app to help find a new to me place for breakfast. Yelp usually doesn't steer me wrong. Located on Metro Pkwy in Ft Myers, this is family owned and those are hard to find in this area. They have a few outside tables that don't look very inviting. But the inside is where it's happening. Upon entering you are greeted by a sign saying, seat yourself, so we were happy to choose a spot. There is a large pastry case filled with cookies, cakes, scones and many more bakery items. I was impressed by how neat and clean the large pastry cases were kept. Love that this place serves breakfast and lunch and you can choose whichever you want at anytime. Ever go to a restaurant at 10:59AM looking for breakfast and they tell you they won't serve it to you? Not here! They are only open until 2PM on the weekends so plan accordingly. Lots of yummy items, omelets, bagels, french toast, melts, quiches, fritatas, bagels, croissants, and that's just breakfast! These are all made fresh so you can change it up any way you want. Love that! The fruit plate going by looked very fresh. I ordered the veggie melt and it was served on a Portuguese roll and was flavorful and fresh, my grandson enjoyed The Hunter with herb potatoes and he is sometimes hard to please. We liked this place so much, we came back the next day for lunch. Sammies, wraps, wraps, salads, soups, the usual and some not so usual suspects. Again, made fresh and can swap out ingredients. The potato salad was spot on goodness. They also have an espresso bar. Don't forget to save room for a sweet treat at the bakery! Great cannolis and cookies! One free with check in up to $3.50. Or take some home for later. Service was good and the prices are reasonable. Will be back to try more for sure!

We've been here twice in the past month or so, and I'm sure we'll be back plenty of times as well. The first time I got the frittata, which was good, but I was a bit disappointed that my only hot sauce option was Tabasco. The second time here I got 'The Metro' which is pan-fried steel cut oats, topped with poached pears, pecans, and maple syrup. Usually I would never give oatmeal on a menu a second glance, but the first time I saw it I was intrigued, and the second time I just had to try it and I'm so glad I did! The oats were cooked to perfection, then formed into triangles before pan frying. This gave them a little crispiness on the outside...kind of an interesting alternative to French toast when topped with syrup. Also had a latte, which was very good! We hope to try some of the bakery goods in the future, they all look delicious!

So I finally found this place months after purchasing a yelp deal for $10 for $20 worth of food. The service was wonderful, the place is adorable. The chicken salad on a croissant was one of the best chicken salad sandwiches I've had. The potato salad was lovely as well. My mother enjoyed her pastries and iced coffee. She had gotten a tuna salad on a bagel to take home and absolutely loved it. Mind you, she is quite picky. I'm not in the area often but I do look forward to returning at some point in the near future. As we were leaving they offered my mother another iced coffee to go for free. I thought that was very nice!!!

Had brunch here today, went on a whim after church, figuring we would pick up some pastries and a cold cut sandwich. Walked in and did not realize they have a full menu! I love that they serve breakfast all day. We had the French onion soup which was amazing. I had a quiche and potatoes and my mother had an omelette with fresh fruit. The service was great and friendly. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone!

I was so excited when I found this place. Honestly, it is very difficult to find a really good place to eat that is individually owned in Fort Myers. Everything is baked fresh daily (I think the staff says the bakers arrive around 3 or 4 in the morning), and you can tell the difference from truly fresh baked to fresh baked, refrigerated, and then sold much later in the day. The food menu is very good too. My favorite is the California Croissant sandwich and the Hunter breakfast. To be honest, everything is really good here. While the coffee is a bit pricey, you do get free refills, plus I believe it is Lavazza, which can make you a bit on the over caffeinated side pretty quickly. The staff is exceptional as well, they are all super nice. Just coming down metro, it's easy to miss because the place is located in every other generic looking shopping center in Fort Myers.

Two words: Vanilla Latte It was seriously one of the best lattes I have had. It was the perfect mix of creaminess, flavor, and espresso deliciousness. I also loved the heavy glass cups they serve them in if you eat in. It seriously kept it warm throughout my whole breakfast and some time afterwards. I'm talking keeping it warm for like an hour which is impressive and ridiculously exciting to me. I drink slow and hate when coffee drinks become lukewarm. I got the sunny side breakfast. I thought it came with the herb potatoes and then your choice of fruit or sliced tomatoes.Turns out it was only one of the three! I wish the wording would have been a bit clearer because I heard the table next to me saying the same thing. I got the banana bread french toast with it. Yum! I've never had banana bread french toast, but figured you can't really go wrong with frying up banana bread in some additional butter. I came for a late breakfast and since it wasn't very busy the wait staff were happy to have me sit there and work for a while. I cleared out before the lunch rush but it was a great place to get some work done while sipping on that delicious latte. Next time I will have to hit up that delicious looking pastry case.

Delicious and the cutest place! Loved the food and The vanilla latte! Can't wait to visit Fort Myers again to back!

Went there for breakfast. I got the Romano omelet and my fiance got the Sunny Side. The omelet was decent, a bit of a twist. Sausage, basil, mushrooms, and provolone cheese. It needed a bit more seasoning (salt), plenty of mushrooms, a little lacking with the sausage, but otherwise it was good. Had it with some fresh fruit and sourdough toast, yum. My fiance 's meal was much nicer. He ordered the sunny side which entails french toast, he got the cinnamon raisin. It had the right amount of sweetness and custard like. Plus eggs over easy, cooked just right. 3 strips of crispy bacon and some fruit. If you are not a fan of fruit, you can opt for herb potatoes or sliced tomatoes. The staff was nice. They were a bit rushed. So be ready with your orders and any other requests. They're speed demons..

Yummmm, I got the Caprice Chicken sandwich and my mom got the Turkey Panini and we both loved our meals! Everything about it was so fresh, and oh my gosh, the bread was so good. Mom wasn't a big fan of the pasta salad or their kettle chips, but that's only because they had vinegar on them; I enjoyed the chips! Cute little sit down place, although I just ordered takeout from the register. Definitely want to go back to try some of their bakery items, they looked delicious.

Went here for breakfast the other day and the pastries were awesome! We got the cream cheese coffee cake which was AMAZING! The coffee cake was HUGE and will probably last us for about a weeks worth of breakfast and cost about $10. We also got a cannoli which was pretty good - but not as good as the coffee cake. I also got a large coffee that was very tasty but was a very small size for a "large" coffee - just FYI for those coffee drinkers like myself that require a substantial caffeine intake to get going in the morning. I recommend heading here for breakfast or grabbing some bread, bagels and pastries to go for a great breakfast at home!!

This place is excellent. I have ordered two dishes each time I have come here. My only regret is that I did not order three. Fried oatmeal, pot pie and smoothies are fantastic. The eclairs are great.

Great little find in an unexpected place! Loved the oatmeal egg white pancakes with pears for a vegan delite! And the quiche Lorraine my hubby swallowed in one bite:))))
UPDATE, 7/2/2015: I finally went back for lunch and all I can say is WOW! What a difference a year makes...the wait staff actually fill each other's drinks and are REALLY genuine and friendly. The sandwich was delicious and very fresh...I ordered the french onion soup as a side and really enjoyed it as well. I will be back, I'm really happy to see a restaurant that has been in the area for so long make such a drastic improvement with their service. I would highly recommend this place to friends and family for lunch. UPDATE, 8/4/2014: The owner reached out and said that he was addressing the issue. I respected that he would contact me. I will try this place again in a few weeks and order the exact same thing and see how it goes. On this visit, my burger came out raw topped with a slice of cold cheese when I ordered it Medium. Service was adequate but when I refused the meal this second time and opted to have nothing you'd at least expect a manager to come out. Zilch, nothing.

I am here in Ft Myers for vacation. I found this place on yelp because I am European. I loved it. Tea was great, they offer hot water, lemon and honey. I asked the omelette juicy, they brought exactly how I described. Fruits were super fresh. Service was extremely great. I have one more day here , I ll come again. I give 6 stars.

We are always looking for a good local breakfast place and European-American Bakery Cafe is the place to go! I ordered the fried egg BLT with the garlic aioli spread. It was delicious and made correctly as ordered. The service was prompt and very friendly. All their pastries and breads are made locally so we had to take some home! We will definitely revisit this gem.

WORST SCONE I'VE EVER HAD Seriously. Since this place is a BAKERY, I feel I have no choice but to flat-out flunk them on this. The scone I had here was dry dry dry and hard hard hard. Of course, as a result of this, it had no flavor. I don't know how old it was, but it must have resided many days in the case to achieve this state. They apparently have no quality control at all, and no pride in their products to permit this to happen. I have always wanted so much to like this place, but I just cannot return.

Love the food and Latte's here!!! They also have soy milk for my Lattes:). This time I had a veggie melt with yummy potato salad and an iced soy latte! Oh yea and a piece of their Neapolitan cake. So good!

something has gone wrong here. Haven't been here for a year or so but was very disappointed today with two breakfast sandwiches, croissant and cinnamon roll that we bought to take home. Croissant had a lovely glaze and looked good but was stale or at least very dry with no butter flavor at all. I heated it up at home in an attempt to revive it. Still without taste. Cinnamon roll was the same. I might guess that it was several days old. It went in the trash. There was no seasoning on our egg/sausage croissant sandwiches. Same tasteless croissant, egg with the consistency of a food service product, thin tasteless sausage. They were gross. At $21 (with a tip for the counter girl) for two breakfast sandwiches and two rolls, I felt ripped off. Perhaps Saturday is a mistake, perhaps off season is a mistake....I don't think so as Metro is a locals' thoroughfare.

I've been here 3 times for lunch and I'm quite pleased. They serve delicious, hand crafted sandwiches, soups and salads both warm and cold. The food is fresh and the service has been extraordinary. My Yelp app has gotten me free pastries with my sandwich purchases. Also a $20 for $10 coupon that they cheerfully accepted. I must mention a dollar extra gets you some of the best french fries instead of your side dish that comes with your meal. I am becoming a regular customer.

Very friendly. Food was acceptable but not out of this world. They say local and fresh ingredients and it seems like it's true! A bit on the expensive side for breakfast. Worth a stop. You may love it!

Great place, fair service. They get busy for lunch, so get here early. French onion soup is possibly the best around, and that is really saying something. If you've never tried making French Onion soup on your own, give it a shot. Takes FOREVER and is difficult to get right. Sandwiches are fantastic, and there's plenty of options.

Beware of buying baked goodies after you have eaten a full meal. A display case of the daily desserts, ranging from bite size cookies to decadent cakes is right next to cashiers-don't say I didn't warn you :-). Nice place for breakfast and lunch. They won me over with their Portuguese rolls (I always buy a pack before leaving) for most of their sandwich offers. Healthy side choices. Service has always been friendly (sometimes a little slow), but the servers are always gracious and you don't mind waiting for the tasty offerings. Wouldn't mind it if they changed their lemonade brand though.

What a great find. Try The Metro. A delicious way to get your oatmeal. Steel cut oats with pears and pecans. Terrific! Also, the Breakfast Burrito was superb. Excellent service by all of the employees we interacted with.

The European American's cookies and breakfasts are delicious. Their waitstaff are overstretched and their cash-register people, who are maybe also waitstaff when not behind the counter, are slow, friendly, and confused. Which means that when we went to eat breakfast, we were sitting more than ten minutes before we got a menu (there were six other parties in there having breakfast when we came in). My impression was that people who go to the seating booths to the right as you enter get their menus faster, in case you want to test the theory. The waitress was friendly when she could get to us, and the food was out promptly, and she even brought us water and refilled the coffee: full points for attentiveness after the initial waiting period. Bistro quiche: great, wonderful light eggy texture, freshly made quiche. I've had quite a lot of the reheated variety, which is often tolerable, and this was much better! Breakfast burrito: he ate every bit of it. He would have preferred a bit more of the pico de gallo with the food; the teensy round dish for the pico held not much. Coffee: tasty; I do not understand why they do not have raw sugar for the coffee -- Crave does thge same thing: good coffee, no raw sugar. I think the very slight molasses flavor of the turbinado sugar goes beautifully with coffee: perhaps they will consider it if they read it here? Or if more people ask. And yeah, I do bring my own just because this is such a common issue. Raisin bread French toast: we split this instead of getting bakery stuff, and it was soft and delicious. Lovely texture. When we ordered a multi-pound cookie order ahead, as it says on the website one should do, we still found on pickup day (after 2 pm) that: 1) there were people browsing the pastry case who were ahead of us, three different parties, and there was no mechanism for communicating that the pickup for the multi-pound order was here, and 2) once everyone had made their selections (I don't know, dear, what do you think? Excuse me, those look like canolis. Are they?), and been checked out, with much conversation about what kind of change the customer would prefer, etc., we found that even though they'd been called 30 minutes before to say that the order placed two days earlier was about to be picked up, they had not actually made up the package. So then it was another wait while the friendly guy who had asked about change and so forth made up a single plate with three pounds of cookies on it. Are you thinking three pounds will not fit on a single plate with a domed lid? You'd be correct. The lid didn't fit. I felt like Hansel and Gretel dropping a trail of cookies (well, OK, only two cookies! And I ate the one that fell on my car instead of the ground...mmm, cookie) out to the car. Fortunately I had some Chinet plates along and could rearrange the cookies at the other end. But the cookies were so late that we couldn't spare the time to pick up coffee from Starbucks, which had been the original plan. All that said, the cookies were light and delicious, especially the small coconut macaroons and the apricot-centered bows. It's just that if you are ordering for a function, get there WAY ahead of time; an hour ahead was not enough time to pick up and get the stuff down to where it needed to be, a 15-minute drive south of the bakery. My guess is that getting there in the morning would be fine; the cookies keep for up to a day covered at room T without losing their delightful texture. So: quality is four stars, service, especially checkout and how order-ahead pickups are handled, not four stars. "A-OK" is about all I'm gonna go on this for now. I'll still order from them, I just won't trust that it's packed up and ready on the day specified. Maybe they will put some procedure in place to make that process more reliable?

I met up with friends for breakfast here. It was fairly easy to find, and much MUCH cuter inside. The croissant is so good. I think it's on par with Costco's. I also recommend the coffee. The cappuccino was foamy to the very end; the way it's supposed to be. Unfortunately, I haven't tried the baked goods yet. Next time.

I haven't been there since 8 years ago when I left Fort Myers. I went back there for the first time over the Christmas break, I forgot how good this place was. They've changed their decor, it's a lot nicer and bigger now. The food there is excellent, better than Panera, First Watch...etc. My parents go there at least once a week :) The cookies and bread are excellent! I highly recommend this place for anyone that lives in Fort Myers area. The only down side about this place is that it closes early, so make sure you get there before they close!!

This is it-- this is the kind of place Panera Bread wants to be. Fresh bread and ingredients, eclectic menu... My wife and I found this place not too long ago and have done nothing but dream of it since. The outside is a little unnerving, but the inside is anything but. Great, chill atmosphere, awesome lighting, and well thought out furniture and layout. You would really expect to find this place in NYC, and expect to pay twice the price. In the four times we've visited here, we've yet to be anything but 100% satisfied with our meal. (Visited once for breakfast, and lunch for the others.) I honestly can't recommend a place more. We love it. I practically made an account just to get this place a better star rating. My only complaint? The music: Top 40's stations are fine for Applebee's, but this place needs some jazz to go with its chill vibe.

Wow, what a fantastic little place for lunch or breakfast. All the bread is fresh and they make a spectacular fritatta. Their egg breakfast sandwiches are the best I've ever had! The paninis are great also. This is exactly the kind of place a foodie like me loves...

What a great place! I was looking for "good bakery" for New Years and found this place on yelp. I called them on my way down to see if they were still open at 4:00 and I was on my way. Instead of closing and locking up at 4 he told me he would wait for me to get there! I got there at 4:05. I bought an assortment of cookies and everyone at the party just raved about them. ALL GONE.. Perfect. Just the kind of place I was looking for. I guess they serve breakfast and lunch too so I'm going back for that.

Stellar service; average food overall. While the French Toast is remarkably tasty, some kitchen cost-cutting diminishes the potential of this restaurant. The ambiance and the service, particularly, are great. However, the sliced deli ham instead of a ham steak and artificial maple syrup instead of real with breakfast makes the overall experience average. I recommend that the back of the house raise its game up to match that of the front of the house.

John K.
The food is really good, BUT, the service is horrible. I will gladly give a place 3 tries before I decide to never eat there again. All three times the food was really good, but I waited too long for anyone to greet me, then waited too long for anyone to take a food order. For a place that is open and specializes in lunch, they need to appreciate the working person and their 45 minute lunch break. The sad thing is my office is just one block away. I don't recommend this place unless you have all afternoon to lounge around and wait.

Best breakfast and lunch in fort Myers easily. Hands down. So happy I found this place. I go there at least once a week. I don't know why people leave bad reviews for this bakery at all. And for the comments about the service, some times I see only 2 servers and for lunch this place gets pretty packed, so I would never complain about the servers because they have always gotten my food right and yes at the very busy times I do not expect to be waited on hand and foot. Obviously those whom commented on rushed staff have never worked in the food industry. More props to them . I will continue to come here and highly recommend this place to everyone

Everyone I know raves about this place - the tasty salads, the tempting sweets. I had to go. The have cup of soup and half sandwich was filling. With a cup of tea and the thought of desert, I think I need to go back to try a cookie! The unfortunate part when I went: they were out of New England Clam Chowder. However, the Minestrone was just as good, and I hope the next time I go, the chowdah is back on the menu.

Had breakfast here several weeks ago, was excellent! Service very good! No complaints! My friend made several special requests about how she wanted her food, came out perfect! This place is a hidden gem! Baked goods are tasty. Breakfast and lunch never fail to disappoint. My veggie omelet at breakfast was cooked perfectly. The flavors of the fresh vegetables could be tasted in even proportion to the egg and cheese. The side of potatoes were not over seasoned and browned nicely on the outside, while being tender In the inside. If you want to forget you are in Fort Myers for a moment, and have the feel of being in a laid back coffee cafe in a big city, then European American Bakery is the place!

I love this place!! It's like a hidden gem in Fort Myers. The location is convenient and I never have to wait long for my food. The food is always fresh and they give generous portions. Plus, they have an amazing desert counter. What a tease!! I've tried all of their cookies and cupcakes and I'm never disappointed. The best thing about the cupcakes is that they are pretty AND taste good. Not too sweet like other places.

Everything looked great but never had a chance to order my meal after 20 min. What I was able to order they didn't have or got the wrong item. Once I was able to ask for what I ordered the attitude I got from the server was not worth waiting another 15 min to catch her attention again. This is even after the gentlemen next to me completed and received his order. Since everything looked so good I will try my luck again on a different day. Maybe a few more servers will help the situation.

The place to go if you like your sandwiches dry and bland, and your hazelnut coffee tasting a bit like strawberries. Waitstaff was pleasant.
I've been to the bakery a few times; my most recent trip was my least favorite for many reasons. First, the waitress seemed to be in a rush and was extremely short with us, so much so that we asked for a coffee and before we could ask what flavors they had, she was gone. We literally looked up and she had vanished. My sister's house coffee was cold, so we had to ask for another... Second, my chicken salad croissant was so bland, I had to cut up my grapes from my side dish to add to the sandwich. It tasted mostly like mayonnaise and I will definitely not be ordering it again. Third, there seemed to be such confusion with using my groupon and a yelp check in that it was not worth it to even"check in". It turned out that they assumed I was using a yelp add that would have given me 1/2 off my meal, when I was actually just trying to get a danish. In the end, the new waitress (ours had disappeared again) figured it all out and we left full but not exactly satisfied...

By far the best cappuccino I've had in Fort Myers and the breakfast was very, very good. I had the cinnamon raisin French toast and herb potatoes. Better than any of the chain restaurants. All of their breads and pastries are made in house, can't wait to try the goodies we got to take home. The service is excellent. Can't wait to go back again.

We recently spent a week in Fort Myers to visit some friends and family and to catch a few Red Sox spring training games. This cafe was located on the road just down from our hotel so we decided to stop in for breakfast. We sat at the counter and the staff were fast and friendly. I got the sour dough french toast and it was great. We were so impressed with our food and service that we ate here 3 more times and went back for cookies and pastry to take on our visits to family. I'll definitely be back to this establishment whenever I'm down.

Excellent, made in house food. Not out of a freezer or food purveyor truck. Very Good sandwich and French onion soup. Attentive, friendly service. The baked goods are extremely tempting, but we should have had desert first.

Pretty good brunch place, and they have a ton of delicious looking pastries. The location is odd, tucked away on an industrial road, but the food and service was good. I would go back.

Breakfast for lunch - that is what keeps bringing me back to European Café and Bakery. No option for dinner though - they close in the afternoon and I'm always at work way past closing time. I'd love to be able to pick up some bread baked fresh daily or some of the pastries in the front case but the hours are tough. I get that they cater the businesses on Metro during the week; that is in fact how I discovered it. Inevitably, there are always coworkers in the restaurant when I am there. I am a big fan of the veggie omelet and the BLT on the croissant with an egg. I love that you can choose from healthy sides too. They have daily soup, quiche and salads that are interesting and sound delicious. If you're there for the lunch rush, service can be kind of slow. The 3 stars gives credit to the food and the quality, but there is room for improvement on the service. Side note and sort of contradictory to what I just said - I do have a friend that was there recently and she was having the talk with her soon to be ex BF - she was upset and it showed- when she was cashing out, a very empathetic server handed her a bag with a cookie in it. On the bag, she wrote "You are beautiful". So nice.

(1)Dina R.
Love the food and Latte's here!!! They also have soy milk for my Lattes:). This time I had a veggie melt with yummy potato salad and an iced soy latte! Oh yea and a piece of their Neapolitan cake. So good!
(5)Renee H.
Food and prices are amazing! A perfect breakfast/lunch spot and food comes out so quick!

something has gone wrong here.

(4)Judy Z.
Very friendly. Food was acceptable but not out of this world. They say local and fresh ingredients and it seems like it's true! A bit on the expensive side for breakfast. Worth a stop. You may love it!
(3)Frank P.
(4)Matthew T.
Great breakfast and service has improved since my last visit. Portions are also a good size.
(4)Pamela H.
(4)Melissa K.

(5)Carl M.
(5)Audrey F.
We find this a great place to eat at when we are taking or picking up family or friends from the airport!
(5)Steve R.
Best of the best! Never expected such a great find.
(5)mike d.
Wow, what a fantastic little place for lunch or breakfast. All the bread is fresh and they make a spectacular fritatta. Their egg breakfast sandwiches are the best I've ever had! The paninis are great also. This is exactly the kind of place a foodie like me loves...
(5)Patricia B.
(5)Roxanne E.
(3)John K.
(2)Dandelions C.
(5)Amy E.
(3)Donna H.
Had breakfast here several weeks ago, was excellent! Service very good! No complaints! My friend made several special requests about how she wanted her food, came out perfect! The cinnamon French toast was yummy! We will certainly be back with friends and family! I had hunter and she had sunny side!
(5)Linda B.
Great salad and soup...northern bean soup..very good...very busy...servers running everywhere!!!
(5)Melanie C.
(5)L J.
(5)Andrew R.
Great coffee, super delicious croissants and pastries, and the Portuguese rolls are awesome too! Friendly service in a relaxed environment.
(4)J. M.
Their food is soooo tasty! Have eaten here several times...various dishes... ALL great. Prices are very reasonable & portions are good.
(5)Bradley W.
(1)Bri H.
The place to go if you like your sandwiches dry and bland, and your hazelnut coffee tasting a bit like strawberries. Waitstaff was pleasant.
(1)S M.
The atmosphere is great... Very cute. The food is tasty, but a bit overpriced for a typical bakery/café. Still worth going though.
(4)Kristen G.
(3)Dolly H.
(5)Mike M.
(5)Mike C.
Excellent, made in house food. Not out of a freezer or food purveyor truck. Very Good sandwich and French onion soup. Attentive, friendly service. The baked goods are extremely tempting, but we should have had desert first.
(4)Carly M.
Pretty good brunch place, and they have a ton of delicious looking pastries. The location is odd, tucked away on an industrial road, but the food and service was good. I would go back.
